We are Family
In 1828 a group of fifteen Believers gathered together in Blackmore and committed themselves by a covenant to being "church". Church comes from the Greek word "ekklesia" which literally means "the called out ones". That is exactly what Christians are. They are called out by God from the darkness of satan's rule into the light of God's eternal Kingdom. They are called out from sin and a life of self-centredness into a new life of discipleship.
In January of 2003 the Believers in Blackmore again signed a covenant together. By a strange co-incidence there were exactly fifteen present! We covenant just for one year. Currently in 2007 we have forty people covenanted together. Thirteen couples, eleven ladies and three men. The age range goes from teenage to the seventies - plus one very lively 93 year old. Of course, there are as many again who attend on Sundays without signing the covenant. Covenanted members, however, meet five times a year for MEALMEET. This is an evening meal together for fellowship. It is followed by prayer and seeking God's face with regard to the future of His Kingdom work. The evenings are used to keep everyone informed about the ongoing practical and spiritual work of the church.
As church we set aside a tenth of our annual income to be given to other charity work around the world. Each covenanted household receives an equal portion of that tithe. In the summer of last year each had £100 to give away to any charity which God led them to support on the church's behalf. If Covenanted members have to be away on any Sunday they receive a CD of the message so that they never miss the ongoing teaching. Past members now live in France, India and Brazil and are still remembered regularly in prayer.
When we try and stand on our own, the enemy has more power to tempt us, but together we are far stronger and can learn how to protect one another as family.
